Vehicle Maintenance Tips for Summer!

Maintenance

Summer and winter are the two weather extremes that can mess with any car. Officially, summer is still just around the corner, but the reality is that it is already getting fairly warm in many areas. The following are some vehicle maintenance tips to help you be prepared for summer.

Air Conditioning

Without a doubt, the air conditioning system is one of the most important items in a car during summer. As soon as anyone starts the engine the first thing they reach for is the AC. Therefore, make sure everything is running smoothly before the really hot weather gets here. This involves checking the belts, refrigerants, and compressor. Most vehicle maintenance shops can do this in a few minutes. This is also a good time to check the engines coolants. While doing car maintenance check up, ask your mechanic to check the coolants and top off as necessary.

Tires

Summer heat is harsh on tires. The hot air makes them expand during the day and then contract during the cooler evenings. This process is more extreme in summer. Therefore, make sure the tires are in good shape, otherwise, there is a good chance they will blow during operation of the vehicle. If the tires are good to go, then keep an eye on pressure. Pressure should be checked before driving in the cooler mornings to get a more precise reading.

Smaller Things

Car maintenance isn't only the big things. There are smaller things that you can do, such as taping dryer sheets to the AC vents for a fresher smell. If the car is going to be parked for a while in the sun, turn the steering wheel 180 degrees to the right. This will keep the part you touch out of the sun, keeping it cool for when you return.
